The use of Technology for tackling Covid’19 – United States of America





The unexpected rise and quick spread of a corona virus also known as COVID-19, is a reminder of the intensity of irresistible disease. It likewise offers bits of knowledge into how science and technology are better preparing us to deal with the health emergencies and contain the spread of diseases. The development of technologies and their access to wealth of data its offers, allows health officials to quickly track the spread of disease, giving vulnerable population vital information. Facebook plays role by generating maps that indicates population density and travel patterns, which are used to track people who need food supplies and who are infected with corona virus. It also helps in investigating how to control spread of COVID-19. Similarly google and twitter worked on identifying fake news about the spread of corona virus and other factors related to corona and eliminates those misinformation. When severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) broke in 2002. All countries were in same situations like now in COVID-19. Technology was not that much advanced at that time, it took scientists more than a year to sequence the genetic data pf that virus. This time around, genetic data of COVID-19 sequenced in less than a month after the first case was identified. Similarly researchers developed the first diagnostic test kit soon after the public announcement of first case of corona virus. Artificial intelligence also proven successful in advancing public health. In USA a patient in Washington State is treated for corona virus by a robot. Other countries also uses robots with the help of doctors and nurses. Combination of medical sciences and technology helping people over the glob in this difficult situation of fighting against corona virus. US researchers, doctors and scientists together decided to release CORD-19 data set. CORD-19 data set contains thousands of research papers. It can provide useful information faster than any researcher can read and digest. Aim of researching with CORD-19 (COVID-19 research dataset) is to build tools which can help medical researchers to extract the information they need and more information continues to be added and published. In few days many data scientists, data engineers, data visualizers, project managers, task managers and writers participated to perform this task. They deeply study with the help of CORD-19 dataset that what do they know about COVID-19, virus genetics, medical care, vaccines and what has been published which can help in tackling to corona virus.
Us is also considering using personal data to help policy makers address the pandemic and working with tech companies like Google and Facebook etc. to determine what kind of information and tools can be used to aid public health. Personal data (location data) is also used in USA to track corona virus infections and to alert people about it, who are at risk. It also used to track movements and understanding of different patterns which could helpful to study more about corona virus.
Big Data Institutes worked with government and medical officials to build a mobile app which provide valuable data for an integrated COVID-19 control strategies. Mobile app helped to alert people about the COVID-19 symptoms and speed of spreading the virus etc. It also used to track infected people to rescue them.
US scientists introduced robot to treat COVID-19. US doctors have been using a robot now to treat first person who is admitted in hospital to control the spread of corona virus. It could also minimize person-to-person contact which is a great achievement to control corona virus. Doctors and nurses outside the room using that robot named as “InTouch Health Robot”, which has microphone and camera to communicate with patient and minimize their exposure to the disease. PCR machines to test corona virus speedups the procedure of testing and identifies infections in a patient with hours. US scientists and researchers are still working on some more advanced testing procedures.
As quarantine in homes is mandatory in controlling corona virus but it has distributed our daily life and cut down social interactions. USA uses online applications like zoom etc. to fulfill distances between families and friends. It also helps to perform official activities (meetings, work related tasks) from home.
